In light of the ongoing global COVID-19 crisis, I am writing what will be the first of regular bi-weekly updates on the status of Vision Camp 2020. At this point, all of us are dealing with the effects of this crisis in one way or another. Here in Kuwait I can tell you that my kids have been out of school for the past 2 weeks with schools likely to close for the rest of the year; the airport is closed to all commercial flights so I can't leave even if I wanted to; and I haven't been able to go to a restaurant for nearly 2 weeks! That said, we are managing and everyone is in good spirits (as long as the wifi doesn't fail us).
At a time like this I think it is important to be open and transparent about what we know and what we are thinking as it pertains to Vision Camp. As of right now, we are still planning to hold Vision Camp. That said, given the uncertainty on how long this global crisis will last, I would advise everyone NOT to purchase airline tickets at this time. I know this may be difficult as some of you are coming from far away and would like to secure the best prices/schedules now. But I would hate to see people lose money on canceled reservations if this crisis extends into the summer and we are unable to hold Vision Camp as planned.
As I have stated I will be sending you an email (as well as post on the website) an update roughly every two weeks to let you know what our status is. In the meantime, I would ask all of you to pray for Vision Camp and the preparations that are ongoing. Pray also for yourself, your family, your community, and indeed the whole world. In many ways we cannot control the circumstances of the world around us, but we can control how we respond. Let's take this as an opportunity to pray, and maybe more importantly to act with kindness and compassion to our friends and neighbors. I hope in times like these we find peace, strength, and encouragement in God's word and promises. It is the only certain thing in an uncertain world.
It is my earnest desire that we will all be able to share our stories of how we got through this time in person at Vision Camp. Until then, stay safe.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me directly. Keep calm, pray, and wash your hands!
